I can’t speak for anyone else, but the following came as absolutely no surprise to me, particularly coming off what is our normal holiday busy season:

More work is the name of the game for small-business owners across the country. A Staples survey released in January of more than 300 small-business owners showed that 98 percent of them work during their time off, including nights, weekends and vacations. The survey also showed that 51 percent of the respondents reported that they dreamed about work.

Northern Colorado’s The Tribune interviews several locals who would also concur with this. One of the perks of my business is that it is all online and done through e-mail, so even though it can lead to long hours, there is a considerable amount of flexibility on when I choose to put those hours in.

In the end, I’d take the long hours over punching someone else’s time-clock anyday, although I’m not sure I’d be so resolute if I did not have that flexibility.
