A slide-show by Baseline shows that identity theft is up from years past, and small business owners are particularly hard hit.
We won’t give the presentation completely away — it’s a quick slideshow — but among the findings are that identity theft was up in 2009, affecting 4.8% of the population (it was at 4.3% in 2008). And businesses are bearing a disproportionate brunt of that, suffering from ID theft at 1.5 times that of the typical consumer.
The slideshow, based on information provided by Javelin Research, also breaks the numbers down into specifics, such as e-commerce fraud, health insurance fraud, and more. You can see the whole presentation here.
